Stem Cell Therapy Showing Promise at Dysautonomia Treatment Centers

Researchers at the University of Oklahoma have found that antibodies formed against certain receptors on nerve cells is a factor that causes POTS symptoms to occur. And since POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) is a type of dysautonomia, finding that these antibodies are linked to the occurrence of POTS provide help with treatment and possibly prevent dysautonomia in general.  Essentially, the presence of these antibodies indicates that dysautonomia is actually related to an autoimmune response in the body. And since stem cells are being used to treat a variety of autoimmune conditions, they show potential as a good alternative to IVIG (gamma globulin), with as good or better results without the side effects of IVIG.

Specifically, mesenchymal stem cell therapy (MSC) has already shown promise as a therapy for MSA (Multiple System Atrophy-another form of dysautonomia), delaying the progression of the disease.  Recently, it has been found that MSC treatment modulates cortical thickness in patients with MSA, which, the authors infer, may also help with cognitive disorders.  Stem cell treatments of this type are being offered in terms of an IRB-approved study for around $6,000 and typically not covered by insurance at this time.

Still, as always and most importantly, before embarking on any treatment plan, it’s best to visit a top-notch dysautonomia clinic and let a specialist determine if you do, in fact, have dysautonomia or some other condition. It makes no sense to start a treatment plan if you’re not 100% certain of what is going on.  And for any significant diagnosis like dysautonomia or similar conditions, it’s always best to get a second opinion.

Getting that good second (or first) opinion is very easy if you simply choose a reputable dysautonomia treatment center with doctors that have sufficient experience and current knowledge. Dr. Paula Moore and Dr. Susan Phillip have a combined experience of over 40 years with dysautonomia, so you can rest assured they will be able to help you get better, in the fastest possible way.
